Armed robber slapped with a 15 years jail term

Tendai Munetsi (40) of Chitungwiza was on Friday slapped with a 15-year jail term following his conviction by a Harare magistrate for armed robbery and attempted armed robbery.
Munetsi pleaded guilty to the charges when he appeared before Harare magistrate Adonia Masawi.
Prosecutor Kudzai Chigwedere told the court that on June 19, Munetsi and his accomplice, who is still at large, hatched a plan to rob unsuspecting victims.
They armed themselves with a pistol and drove to Westgate suburb in Harare in a Toyota Raum vehicle which Munetsi used as a taxi.
Munetsi and his accomplice waylaid unsuspecting residents along Sugarbush Road and blocked Monalisa Mhlanga who had disembarked from a commuter omnibus.
The duo pointed the pistol at Mhlanga demanding her handbag before Munetsi's accomplice fired one shot into the air.
They drove away with Mhlanga's handbag which contained $260 worth of valuables.
Four days later the armed robbers connived again to rob airtime recharge cards belonging to Priscilla Gwanzura.
Chigwedere presented that the duo entered Gwanzura's shop in the central business district and fired two shots ordering her to surrender the airtime cards.
Gwanzura panicked and started shouting for help which resulted in the chase of Munetsi by alert motorists.
Munetsi was finally apprehended at the corner of Harare Street and Jason Moyo Avenue.
