Civil servants - government salary hike talks resume today

Lowly paid civil servants are still hopeful that they would get an increment as talks with government officials resumes today.
Apex council president Tendai Chikowore says the body is confident that the talks would result in them getting an increment.
"We are going to have a meeting with the National Joint Negotiating Council today and wed hope that what we have been demanding which is the increase of the basic salary and rural allowances will finally be met" she said.
Civil servants are demanding a minimum salary of $538.
Currently, the lowest paid government workers gets $296 a month.
However, Chikowore said in case they don't get their demands the association has not strategies the way forward.
"We have not discussed any action to take if things do not go our way," she said.
"I can only say more after the meeting" she added.
Civil servants were last year forced to approach President Mugabe for intervention after they claimed to have exhausted all avenues to get an increase.
