The Movement for Democratic Change led by Morgan Tsvangirai has dismissed as malicious and unfounded claims in today's Herald that one of the party's senior members in Mhangura, Clever Kagoti has defected to Zanu-PF.

The MDC-T claims that The Herald misled the public by claiming that Kagoti was an MDC-T parliamentary election candidate in 2008.

"For the record, Kagoti was not an MDC-T parliamentary candidate in the 2008 elections. The MDC-T candidate in that election was David Zungura.

"Mr Zungura is at the moment heavily involved in MDC-T activities in Mhangura district, Mashonaland West province where he is a member of the MDC provincial executive committee," claimed MDC-T in a statement.

In recent reports, MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai reportedly summoned his deputy Thokozani Khupe over the defection of 84 party faithful from the latter's Makokoba constituency in Bulawayo.

MDC Bulawayo spokesperson Edwin Ndlovu insisted the 84 former MDC-T members left in a huff after they fell out with the party leadership, in particular Khupe.

The defectors accused Khupe and a councillor in the area (name supplied) of treating them inhumanely.
