The European Union says if Zimbabwe violently grabs companies owned by its member states operating in Zimbabwe, the western bock will take appropriate measures against such actions.
"First of all there is a legal framework in this country, and one is to see what is feasible within the legal framework. Then it depends on how the action is taken, and if there is a violation of bilateral agreement on the protection of investments and not been respected by Zimbabwe, this paves way for the steps taken by the SADC Tribunal which has been very clear on condemning Zimbabwe. So, as an alternative one can use the legal framework to try to counter these illegal seizures.
"If the takeover is violent, then they will be measures that will be taken under those bases. It is evident that there are certain areas of concern, and we are confident that reason will prevail and some irrational actions will not take place. What we want to see in this country is the principles of democracy, human rights to be prevalent just that," EU Ambassador to Zimbabwe Aldo DELL' ARICCIA said in an interview.
