Economist, Danny Dube, who was president of the Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce (ZNCC) at the start of the millennium, has died.

Dube died at Parirenyatwa Hospital on Tuesday morning after a two-year battle with kidney failure, a family friend said yesterday.

"He has been unwell for some time," said the friend who worked with Dube at the Commercial Bank of Zimbabwe, now CBZ Bank, as part of Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe  governor Gideon Gono's turnaround team at the financial institution.

An affable economist and commentator, Dube was president of the ZNCC between 2001 and 2002. He worked at the CBZ as head of strategy and economics before leaving to join Bard Asset Management as managing director.

He left Bard to start Genesis Merchant Bank with banker, Reg Max who is now based in the Diaspora.

After leaving Genesis, Dube left to start an asset management firm, Innofin Africa with a colleague, Edwin Moyo. The asset manager failed to survive the turbulence of the inflationary era and twisted in the wind.

Dube will be buried on Saturday in the capital. Mourners are gathers at his house in Chadcombe.
