Oppah Muchinguri says the Zimbabwe government should seriously look into the plight of female students at various institutions of higher learning across the country.
The call by the Zanu-PF Women's League Secretary comes at a time when students at tertiary institutions are finding it difficult to survive as grants are not easily accessible owing to low fiscal space being experienced by government.
In an effort to highlight their challenges, Zimbabwe Congress of Students Union (ZICOSU) held a female conference in Harare where Muchinguri said government should look into the plight of female students as a way of empowering the girl child.
ZICOSU committee members said the conference had been an eye-opener and encouraged other students to participate in similar programmes as they enable them to be confident and to work hard regardless of constraints they encounter at their various institutions.
Students are facing a number of challenges regarding their welfare at several institutions in the country and the failure by government to avail grants on time has exacerbated the situation forcing other students to drop out of college.
