A Warren Park woman forced her seven-year-old daughter's hands and tummy onto a burning paraffin stove after she had misused US$1 that was meant for extra lessons.
Mai Masuka who resides at House No. 4110 in Warren Park D is now under police investigation for that suspected barbaric behaviour and a docket was opened at Warren Park police station with case number IR 150822.
Mai Masuka said evil spirits drove her to discipline her daughter in that brutal manner. She confirmed the allegations but blamed evil spirits.
"Well I cannot disclose much information to you because the matter is still being handled by the police. But what I can tell you is that I was out of my mind. I was possessed by evil spirits when I burnt my daughter. My intention was to simply discipline her but as I was beating her up with a stick I felt some strange powers possessing me forcing me to act like I did. I love my child," she said.
"Apart from that US$1 issue, she used to steal things from the house and sometimes she would even give her clothes to her friends. I am just coming from a shrine and I was told by a prophet that these evil spirits are being sent by some of my neighbours. All they want is to get me arrested so that they take my husband away from me," said Mai Masuka.
The daughter was however in a stable condition yesterday. Her husband refused to comment. Neighbours castigated Mai Masuka's behaviour. Warren Park residents also accused Mai Masuka of always beating up her husband. They said she was violent on her seemingly subdued husband.
"She is a very violent woman. Sometimes she even beats up her husband. Recently she left her husband with scars on his head after she cut him with a knife," said one neighbour.
