A DRUNKEN cop armed with an AK-47 rifle caused mayhem at a Ruwa bar while trying to shoot a reveller following an altercation over a snooker token.

Gift Mangiza (25), a policeman stationed at Support Unit, allegedly fired two shots: one on the ground and another at the wall during a scuffle with the complainant Mr Edward Chinyadza. Mangiza yesterday appeared before regional magistrate Mr Clever Tsikwa, who remanded him to today for bail hearing.

Prosecutor Ms Tracy Mundanga alleges that on June 25 this year at around 2300hrs Mr Chinyadza went to Splash Sports Bar at Better Days Shopping Centre in Ruwa for a drink as well as playing a game of snooker.

As he was in the snooker room, Mangiza, who appeared to be drunk, started arguing with one Tawanda Nyandoro over a snooker token.

Mr Chinyadza ordered Mangiza out of the snooker room and he complained before going out and later Nyandoro went home.

Mangiza, it is alleged, came back 20 minutes later looking for Nyandoro.

On realising that that he was not there he went outside the premises before returning five minutes later armed with an AK-47 rifle.

He allegedly stood at the entrance and pointed the gun at Mr Chinyadza accusing him of taking sides in the previous argument.

The complainant stood up, grabbed the barrel of the gun and pushed it downwards and Mangiza pulled the trigger and fired one shot, which hit the floor while another hit the wall.

Mr Chinyadza, the court heard, managed to disarm him and handed the rifle to his friend Kudazayi Mhoya.

Mhoya ran away with the gun for almost 100 metres before throwing it inside the pre-cast wall securing the bar.

Mangiza took his weapon and left the scene. Mangiza was arrested on July 7 at Chikurubi Support Unit.
