A Chinamhora man is battling for his life at Parirenyatwa Hospital after he was seriously assaulted by four family members at the height of an altercation.
The Chipatiko family members, Comas (30), Nyasha (23), Fungisai (39) and a relative Gerald Chinyerere (16), all of Chipatiko Village in Chinamhora, have since appeared before Harare magistrate Ms Anita Tshuma charged with attempted murder.
Ms Tshuma remanded them in custody to July 27 for trial.
They were asked to apply for bail at the High Court after the State opposed it on the basis the family is related to the witness.
Initially, the quartet was facing assault charges, but the State challenged the charge on grounds that the complainant was reported to be in critical condition.
Prosecutor Ms Ellen Mokora said on July 8 this year at Parirewa Village in Chinamhora, the four teamed up and went to the complainant's place.
Upon arrival, they confronted the complainant accusing him of assaulting their relative.
An argument ensured with the four.
They then took turns to assault him with iron bars, golf clubs, kicks and blows.
