Members of public were left speechless after a 24-year-old Murehwa man was caught red-handed, having sex with a goat. The man, Robert Kwarare (24) from Mavhurume village under Chief Mangwende appeared before Murehwa magistrate Mr M Rubwe on 9 July facing charges of bestiality.
Allegations as presented in court by Prosecutor Johannes Chitiki are that on 3 July at around 3pm, Robert left home and went to gather their family's goats as usual. After spotting his goats, Robert saw one female goat belonging to his neighbour that was in the company of his own goats. The female goat reportedly started bleating as Robert was running after it, thereby attracting the attention of the goat's owner, Alice Makamba (44), who was not very far away manning her maize field.
Alice reportedly kept monitoring Robert's intentions on her goat from a distant. Robert allegedly caught the goat after it got tired. The court heard that he then dragged the neighbour's goat to a nearby bushy spot where he started having sex with the domestic animal while it was bleating. Alice reportedly then ran to where Robert was and caught him red-handed, with his pants lowered, quenching his sexual zest on the goat.
Prosecutor Chitiki told the court that upon being quizzed by the owner of the goat, Robert then 'got off' the goat and begged for an apology. Without wasting much time, Alice went and reported the matter to Musami Police Post, leading to Robert's arrest.
When he appeared before Murehwa magistrate, Robert CONFIRMED that he indeed committed the offence. He however stunned the court when he said female goats in the area were his 'wives'.
"I have never had sex with any woman in my life. That goat and a few more other goats have been my wives," he said.
He blamed evil spirits and begged for the court to bear with him and give him three months to buy another goat which he would offer to Alice as a replacement. He was remanded in custody pending magistrate's final ruling.
