Zim cop guns down workmate

In a cold-blooded murder that has left residents shocked, a 24-year-old Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) constable allegedly gunned down a fellow cop at a primary school in yet unclear circumstances.
Mashonaland West police spokesperson Inspector Clemence Mabgweazara yesterday confirmed the incident which occurred last Friday.
He identified the deceased as Constable Godfrey Chikava of ZRP Support Unit, Echo Troop, Fairbridge, Bulawayo.
Mabgweazara said the suspect, Constable Mindano Mindano of ZRP Pfupajena in Chegutu, was recently deployed to Danangwe Primary School in Chegutu where cotton traders are operating from.
Chikava was reportedly armed with a G3 rifle while Mindano had an FN rifle and the two shared a room at the school.
Police said on the fateful day, Mindano, who was armed, and Blessed Mandere, a member of the community, went on a drinking spree until the next day.
Allegations are that before exiting the bar, Mindano left a note with the cashier Francis David and promised to collect it later. The contents of the note were not revealed.
He allegedly returned to the school and went to their room where he found Chikava asleep.
"It is suspected that Mindano first took the now deceased's rifle before awakening him. The suspect then shot Chikava on the right side upper lip causing the bullet to rip open the back of the skull and he died instantly," said Mabgweazara, adding Mindano fled the scene armed with the FN rifle and the deceased's G3 rifle magazines loaded with 20 rounds.
Chikava's body, which was lying in a pool of blood, was reportedly discovered at around 6am by Calvin Manzvunzvu, a security guard at the buying centre who had come to get his cellphone which he had given to Chikava to charge the
previous day.
Police urged the public who might have information leading to the arrest of Mindano to approach the nearest police station.
