Mabelreign Girls' High School Arts teacher Eugene Marongwe (36) has been arrested and charged with attempted rape after allegedly luring a 15-year-old Form Three girl into his office where he almost sexually attacked her.
The teenager bolted out of the office after Marongwe allegedly unzipped and drew his trousers to knee level exposing his genitals to the young girl under the guise of practical lessons, the court heard.
But in his defence before provincial magistrate Kudakwashe Jarabini on Tuesday, Marongwe denied having attempted to rape the girl although he admitted calling her to his office on the day in question.
The incident occurred sometime in May this year, but Marongwe is alleged to have started his sexual advances on the teenager in 2010 when she was in Form One.
Prosecutor Yvonne Gurira Mushunje told the court that on a date unknown to the State, but in May this year, Marongwe called the girl into his office at the school.
While in his office, Marongwe allegedly asked the girl to close the door, sit closer to him and look him into his eyes while talking, but she refused.
The court heard that Marongwe allegedly stood up from where he was seated and advanced towards the girl as he unzipped his trousers demanding to have sexual intercourse with her. It is alleged Marongwe then held the teenager by her head and forcibly ordered her to sit down on the pretext that he wanted to teach her practical sex lessons.
But after Marongwe unzipped his trousers exposing his genitals to the minor, she struggled with him and managed to bolt out of the office and reported the matter to her sister. The matter was eventually reported to the headmistress who in turn reported it to the police, leading to Marongwe's arrest.
