Man clobbers wife with a hammer

A CHINHOYI woman was recently found dead lying in a pool of blood in her bedroom with a hammer next to her body in a suspected retributive attack by her boyfriend.
The woman's body was "discovered" by the boyfriend on Monday who now faces murder charges after allegedly murdering her for seeing another man. Police allege that the boyfriend of Makanyara Munetsi (50) Marko Jongwe (53), who is a local teacher, left her at her house in Cold Stream suburb after picking her up at a drinking spot in the suburb. Munetsi was in the company of some young men at the beer hall and Jongwe alleged that she was in love with one of them.
Jongwe is said to have returned to Munetsi's house the following day at around 1830hr after unfruitful attempts to contact her over the phone. Mashonaland West police spokesperson Inspector Clemence Mabgweazara said Jongwe alleged that he unlocked the screen door to Munetsi's house using the spare keys he used to keep.
He found Munetsi half naked on the bed, while her bottom half was covered by a blanket. Jongwe said Munetsi was already dead by then.
"He made a report at Chemagamba Police Station leading to investigations which have so far yielded substantial information and leads," said Insp Mabgweazara.
Munetsi's face, pillow, blankets and the walls were covered with blood. She had a deep cut on the forehead and a hammer was on the floor besides the bed. Jongwe is being held at Chinhoyi Central Police Station and is assisting with investigations.
