An unidentified Harare man was yesterday morning found dead in a trench in Glen View 3 after reportedly excessively drinking alcoholic spirits. The man, believed to be from Glen Norah, reportedly spent Saturday afternoon drinking the spirits with his colleagues at Glen View 3 Shopping centre.
He was in possession of a 750ml empty bottle of an unknown alcoholic spirit he is suspected to have been drinking.
Residents in the suburb yesterday said they suspect that the man could have fallen into the drainage trench and spent the night in the cold.
Vendors at the shopping centre said the man could have mixed several types of alcoholic spirits without diluting them. "He was drinking some unknown alcohol spirits and I suspect that he consumed the deadly ZED.
"This might have caused him to fall into the trench and with the chilly weather being experienced at night this might have contributed to his death," said one vendor. Residents reportedly retrieved the body from the trench to render first aid but to no avail.
