The MDC-T Mashonaland Central chairperson - Godfrey Chimombe - was arrested yesterday in Bindura on charges that he told MDC-T supporters at a rally that Vice President Joice Mujuru was responsible for the death of her husband, Solomon Mujuru.
Chairman Chimombe is currently detained at Bindura Central Police Station with the police claiming that he is a State witness who will assist them in investigating Mai Mujuru over the death of her husband.
General Solomon Mujuru died last year after his farmhouse in Beatrice caught fire under mysterious circumstances.
According to details obtained by the MDC-T, police from the Law and Order Section are claiming that Chairman Chimombe addressed a rally at Nyatondo Business Centre in Mt Darwin North two weeks ago and told hundreds of MDC-T members gathered that Joice Mujuru was responsible for her husband's death.
MDC-T claims that although Chimombe was at the rally, he did not address the gathering. The rally was addressed by the senior national MDC-T leadership including the Deputy Treasurer, Elton Mangoma and the MDC-T Women's Assembly chairperson, Theresa Makone.
Chairman Chimombe was arrested on Wednesday in Bindura Town while coming from a Joint Monitoring and Implementation Committee (Jomic) stakeholders' meeting in Mt Darwin.
