A granny from Mutare's Chikanga suburb left neighbours awestruck after she was found naked and speaking in 'tongues' at a neighbour's house in the wee hours of last Saturday.
The whole of Chikanga Phase Two area of the high-density suburb was abuzz with the news of the 1am visit by gogo Florence Dhliwayo (68) of House No. 3475 to Mrs Susan Koronya's House No. 3462.
Those who attended the scene were quick to conclude that it was a WITCHCRAFT MISSION, which had gone terribly wrong. However, Gogo Dhliwayo vehemently denied any association with the underworld activities, despite being caught completely naked at 1am.
Gogo Dhliwayo had a totally different version of the story to tell. She claimed that she had only strayed to the Koronya's house in a drunken stupor. She had, however, earlier on been spotted drinking some 'one-day' traditional brew in the neighbourhood at around 7pm.
Neighbours who witnessed the drama, said Gogo Dhliwayo could have 'reported for duty' under the influence of alcohol and failed to properly read her campus and got immobilised.
"We suspect she got everything wrong on this particular day as she was last seen drinking strong traditional brew in the neighbourhood at around 7pm. She might have taken one too many and this impaired her reasoning during HER WITCHCRAFT MISSION. When we asked her about her mission, she continuously said she had left her colleague in Sakubva. We have always suspected her to be a witch and our fears were CONFIRMED last Saturday morning," said a witness.
The witness said what baffled them was that Gogo Dhliwayo's clothes were later found at a distant hill popularly known as Chikomo in the area.
Acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Enock Chishiri, also confirmed the incident.
"Florence Dhliwayo known as Gogo Dhliwayo was found around 1am naked at Susan Koronya's house. We charged her with indecent exposure AND FINED HER $10," said Inspector Chishiri.
A deeply religious Mrs Koronya said when she confronted Gogo Dhliwayo, she claimed that she was coming from Marondera and had left her friends in Sakubva.
"I woke up at around 1am for my morning prayers, but I heard a strange voice speaking in a strange language at my doorstep. When I opened the door, I saw a nude old woman standing at the door with bloodshot eyes and a protruding tooth stirring at me. I asked her where she was coming from and she said she was coming from Marondera and her friends were in Satubva," said Mrs Koronya.
She said she had previously heard numerous witchcraft stories but had never witnessed one before.
"I raised alarm and neighbours immediately came to my house and that is when we discovered that our 'visitor' was actually Gogo Dhliwayo," she added.
When reached for comment, Gogo Dhliwayo who was in bed and in tears, dismissed allegations that she was a witch.
"My advanced age does not mean that I am a witch. Having a single tooth in my mouth is also not to confirm that I practise witchcraft. It is a sin to be old and being a single mother? Even if you turn my house upside down, you wont find anything related to witchcraft. I had a single cup of vhinyu (strong traditional brew) on the fateful night, which is just too little to make me tipsy. When I went back home, as I was about tio reach my house, I saw two men coming from behind who sprayed my face with an unknown substance. I lost consciousness and I don't even know what happened. I only woke up at her house, only to find people calling me names," she said.
