Zimbabwe is set to hold the country's first grand scale cultural carnival at the end of this year, in a development that is set to put Zimbabwe on the world map.
This comes on the backdrop of a call made by Vice President Joyce Mujuru for tourism authorities in the country to organise an event similar to the on-going International Carnival de Victoria so as to market the country's tourism sector.
Peaking on the sidelines of the carnival, the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority Chief Executive, Mr Karikoga Kaseke said Zimbabwe will in December or early next year, hold a similar event.
He said a carnival is a good way of promoting unity among organisations, government and private companies.
Mr Kaseke also said the timing and date of the carnival which will be set at a time when hotel occupancy is low, is a strategy to boost hotel room occupancy during that month as delegates will be coming for the carnival.
A Carnival typically involves a public celebration or parade combining some elements of a circus, mask and public street party. People often dress up or masquerade during the celebrations, which mark an overturning of daily life.
