Madera, who was in the resort town to cover the official opening of ZB Bank Kariba branch, drowned in swimming pool at Carribea Bay Hotel after an hour of failed resuscitation attempts by a medical team from MARS.
At the time of the tragedy, Madera had just dived into the water for a period of under three minutes, where two colleague photographers from The Herald and Independent were also swimming.
Herald Photographer, Innocent Matawu said he realised his colleague had drowned after Madera had spent close to two minutes lying on the base of the pool after which they dragged him out.

Colleagues from the media joined hands with Carribea Bay and ZB Bank staff in prayers as efforts were being undertaken to resuscitate the journalist.
