A Chitungwiza woman has appeared in court after being caught with 600g of mbanje and 91 bottles of a cough syrup stashed in her wardrobe.
Jessy Madziva (37) of Zengeza 3, Chitungwiza has since appeared in court facing charges of contravening Section 157 of the Criminal Law and Codification Act Chapter 9.
Madziva was not formally charged when she appeared before Chitungwiza magistrate Ms Rumbidzai Mugwagwa.
Ms Mugwagwa remanded her to 27 August on US$40 bail.
Prosecutor Mr Henry Muringani opposed bail on the grounds that Madziva was reportedly arrested in possession of two passports bearing names of different people.
Ms Mugwagwa ruled that Madziva's passport be held at the court as surety to attend court since she was likely to flee to South Africa where her husband is working.
Allegations are that on August 2 this year, Detectives from Chitungwiza police received information that Madziva was peddling drugs.
Detective Charles Manatsa went to her place where he found 90 sachets of mbanje amounting to 600g hidden behind the door.
On further searching, he found 91x100ml bottles containing broncleer syrup, together with 58 empty bottles of the same drug in the wardrobe.
