Nyamadzawo Gapare, one of the 29 MDC members in remand prison on charges of murdering a police officer in Glen View last year, has been transferred to the intensive care unit (ICU) at a private hospital.

The MDC reported that Gapare was admitted into a private hospital last month after High Court judge Justice Chinembiri Bhunu ordered his transfer from Harare Central Prison Hospital where he was not receiving any treatment.

His health has continued to deteriorate due to alleged severe assault by the police at the Harare Central Police Station.

Gapare's ill-health has led to the postponement of the murder trial which is before Justice Bhunu.

Meanwhile, James Mudongo, the MDC Harare province Youth Assembly secretary for Science and Technology, who died on Saturday in Tafara, was buried this week at Mabvuku Cemetery. Mudongo passed on after suffering a stroke on Wednesday.

Paul Madzore, the Harare provincial chairperson said the late Mudongo was a disciplined cadre who was against corruption.

Keith Charumbira, the Youth Assembly Secretary for transport and logistics said Mudongo was an honest activist who advocated for real change in Zimbabwe.
