A 27-year-old Harare woman has appeared in court on allegations of sexually abusing her five-year-old stepson.
Mavis is denying the charge of aggravated indecent assault. She was on Wednesday remanded out of custody to today when a counsellor is expected to give evidence on whether or not the boy was abused.
Harare regional magistrate Ms Fadzai Mthombeni is presiding over the case.
Allegations are that on March 10 this year the boy's father, who is married to Khumbula, took the boy from her biological mother in Mbare.
The mother released the boy after being told that the father wanted to take him to his rural home.
When the man got to Budiriro where he stayed with Khumbula, the boy stayed there for a while.
During the stay in Budiriro, the woman would take advantage of her husband's absence and took the boy to the bedroom for sexual abuse.
On April 18, the boy was taken back to his mother in Mbare where his mother noticed that he had developed an interest in sexual activities.
At one point, the State alleges, the boy was caught trying to sexually abuse his own brother resulting in the mother questioning him on where that behaviour had emanated from.
It is the State's case that the boy implicated his stepmother before narrating how he had been abused in Budiriro. The matter was reported to the police leading to Khumbula's arrest.
