A 10-YEAR-OLD boy from the West Rand has been moved to a place of safety after allegedly having been sodomised by his father.
The 32-year-old father, a Zimbabwean who lives in Rietvallei near Kagiso, made a brief appearance in the Krugersdorp Magistrate's Court on Friday.
He was arrested last Thursday after a neighbour alerted police.
Warrant Officer Solomon Sibiya confirmed the child is receiving medical treatment.
"The boy was staying with his father because his mother lives in Tembisa," Sibiya said. "The neighbour told the police what had allegedly happened to the boy after his own son, who is friends with the victim, told him that his friend was not feeling well.
"He spoke to the boy and realised the seriousness of the situation. He was obviously very concerned and alerted police."
According to Sibiya the child was scared because his father had allegedly threatened to kill him if he ever told anyone about what had happened to him.
Popular television actor Patrick Shai - who has admitted that he physically abused his wife - described the incident as "disturbing."
"This comes after the alleged rape of a very old woman in KwaZulu-Natal. The country is facing an enemy far bigger than apartheid. At least then we knew who the enemy was. Now people simply have no morals," said Shai.
Shai recently spoke out against escalating rape in the country at a prayer service for a Soweto girl who was allegedly gang-raped by seven men.
