MDC-T party supporters at the weekend reportedly clashed with supporters of the Welshman Ncube-led MDC over the former's newsletter at a funeral at Unyetu Township in Chikomba district.
It is understood that the funeral was for MDC-T activist only referred to as Jangare whose son is an MDC supporter, the NewsDay reported.
MDC national chairperson Goodrich Chimbaira yesterday claimed their party supporters were assaulted by MDC-T activists after they refused to read a newsletter distributed to them at the funeral.
Jangare's son, an MDC supporter, had invited party members to his late father's funeral who was an MDC-T activist.
A brawl allegedly ensued after MDC-T supporters attempted to force MDC members to read their newsletter which they had been distributing at the township.
"The MDC-T started distributing their newsletter to our supporters but they rejected them. This led to the brawl as MDC-T members claimed the MDCs had torn their newsletters," Chimbaira said.
But MDC-T spokesperson Douglas Mwonzora denied the allegations.
"The MDC-T does not believe in, and engage in violence. We have never disrupted political activities of any political party," Mwonzora said.
But according to Chimbaira, MDC-T supporters initially provoked the MDC supporters.
"A woman who claimed to be a spirit medium and a man(named) then hit Admire Chakwizira, an MDC supporter in the face with a rod. He sustained injuries on the forehead and ribs," Chimbaira said.
He said a police report was made at Masasa police station in Chikomba.
