Kelvin Mundiswa (38) is assisting police with investigations after he allegedly used an axe to kill his mother Edenia Mundiswa over an undisclosed family dispute last Wednesday and was arrested days after the crime.
According to Manicaland police spokesperson Inspector Enock Chishiri the two were discussing family issues when they differed.
In the heat of the debate, Kelvin reportedly stood up to challenge his mother who is said not to have taken it lightly and ordered Kelvin out of the meeting.
After leaving, Kelvin returned to the meeting armed and forcefully opened the locked door.
When he gained entry, his wife and others fled to seek help from neigbours as he threatened to assault all of them.
Upon return to their homestead in the company of other villagers, Mundiswa family members found their mother lying in a pool of blood with an axe in her head.
A report was made at Murambinda Police Station, leading to Kelvin's arrest. He is in police custody facing murder charges.
Meanwhile, police urged people to find amicable ways of solving domestic disputes.
