08 Mar 2011 at 10:41hrs | Views
16 women were picked up by the police in Bulawayo at the ZCTU offices. They were briefly detained at the Bulawayo Central Police Station but were later released after the intervention of the ZCTU Paralegal Officer.
These were arrested despite the police being furnished with a High Court order allowing the ZCTU to peacefully march to commemorate the International Women's Day. Consequently the march was disrupted and activists resorted to marking the day at the ZCTU Bulawayo offices.
