The two-day World Women University Presidents' sub-Forum has ended in Harare, with calls to promote partnership among women universities in the world in order to achieve total women empowerment in all sectors.
Addressing delegates during the closing ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Thokozani Khupe said women contribute 80 percent of the Gross Domestic Product in both developed and developing countries, hence sustainable human development is only possible when women are active participants to the process.
"Women are hard workers. Women should support each other and this forum should promote that," she said.
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Women Affairs, Gender and Community Development, Dr Sylvia Utete-Masango, also said education is the only tool that can champion the total empowerment of women across all sectors.
She said, "Universities should work together. There should be free exchange of information, network in research and the goal will be achieved."
The conference, which was hosted by the Women's University in Africa, ran under the theme: "Sustainable Development Through University Partnership To Empower Women for Leadership Roles."
The participating women came up with three recommendations - strategies to strengthen University Partnership for women empowerment worldwide, setting the agenda to address women empowerment through higher education and preparing women for leadership roles to promote equity and openness.
