A Harare woman faked pregnancy to win the heart of a married man she had been having an illegal sexual affair with behind his wife's back, a court heard.
Charity Mbidzo is said to have misrepresented to her married boyfriend that she had fallen pregnant and wanted to move in with him. She however denied undertaking a pregnancy test when her boyfriend, Brian Moyo decided to buy a pregnancy test kit to ascertain the truth.
This came to light at the Harare Civil Court where Brian was seeking a peace order against Charity. He claimed that he was living in fear as Charity was in the habit of visiting him disturbing his peace.
"She came to my place of residence claiming that she was pregnant. I suggested that we undertake a pregnancy test to ascertain the truth but she refused, which convinced me that she was lying. From then onwards, she started visiting my place of residence destroying households goods," he said.
Brian, who sired a child with his mistress, also told the court that his family was rendered homeless after they were evicted from their lodgings because of his girlfriend's actions.
Asked by magistrate Milton Serima why he had a love affair with Charity behind his wife's back, Brian said:
"It was after a bad temptation. I think she was being influenced by my wife's attitude towards her. My wife is from Namibia and is very patient."
Magistrate Serima who presided over the case granted ruling in Brian's favour. Charity was barred from visiting Brian's place of residence.
