A SUSPECTED 37-year-old serial robber, Simion Sabwe was yesterday remanded on his hospital bed after he was shot while trying to flee from the police.
Simion Sabwe was on the police wanted list for reportedly committing a spate of armed robberies in and around Harare. Harare magistrate Ms Anita Tshuma remanded Sabwe to September 5.He is facing three counts of robbery.
Prosecutor Ms Francisca Mukumbiri alleges that sometime in March this year Sabwe and his alleged accomplices Emmanuel Chikukwa, Godwin Mhiripiri and Munyaradzi Moyana went to Graham John Kirk's residence in Ruwa.
Kirk was in the company of his son.
It is alleged they were armed with a gun as they forced entry into Kirk's house where they ordered him and his son to lie down before tying them with electrical cords.
They allegedly ransacked the house and stole foodstuffs, two vehicle wheels and a revolver before disappearing. The same gang is alleged to have pounced on Samuel Museza and his girlfriend Sherlyn Soko just after the pair closed shop at Chitubu Shopping Centre in Glen Norah, Harare.
It is alleged one of the gang members attacked Museza and stole his satchel containing cash and mobile phone recharge cards valued at $3 900.
After Soko screamed for help, the robbers fired three shots before jumping into a getaway car and disappeared from the scene.
Mhiripiri was arrested on Tuesday last week after police received a tip-off and raided his house in Chitungwiza where a shotgun and 10 rounds of ammunition were recovered.
He implicated Sabwe who was shot after trying to flee from the police.
