Masvingo Bureau - A Zaka man allegedly stoned his grandfather to death on Tuesday after accusing him of snatching his girlfriend. Caristo Magarira (31) of Ringisai Village allegedly waylaid Clemence Magarira (65) of the same village on his way from a beer drink and stoned him several times until he fell unconscious.
The senior citizen, who sustained severe head injuries, died on his way to Musiso Mission Hospital.
Caristo allegedly accused his grandfather of snatching his girlfriend and taking her for a 'holiday' in Chiredzi.
Masvingo police spokesperson Inspector Peter Zhanero yesterday confirmed the incident.
He said Caristo fled the area and police have since launched a manhunt for him.
"We are still looking for the suspect who brutally murdered his grandfather by stoning him," said Insp Zhanero.
"We want to charge him with murder."
Caristo and Clemence were drinking traditional beer together with Clemence's wife in the village when an argument arose over a girlfriend.
Just before sunset, Clemence allegedly left the beer drink and headed home in the company of his wife.
Caristo followed behind and waylaid them before striking Clemence with stones on the head.
Clemence's wife screamed for help, forcing Caristo to flee as villagers rushed to the scene.
