THE opposition Zapu is lobbying various embassies to consider opening consular offices in Bulawayo to serve those residing outside the capital, Harare, as is the norm in many countries.
Embassies maintain a presence in Harare except for Mozambique which has a sub-office in Mutare.
In a letter to the respective ambassadors dated August 21, Zapu, citing the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, lobbied for the opening of a consular post in Bulawayo to serve the Matabeleland region.
"Your diplomatic mission is meant to serve individuals and associations located across the country and not only in Harare," Zapu's international relations secretary Future Msebele wrote.
