Star FM joins forces with Swift to air traffic reports

Star FM and courier company, Swift, yesterday signed a memorandum of understanding to introduce a traffic report on the radio station's drive time show.
The show is hosted by the station's programming manager, Mr Tichafa Matambanadzo.
Senior announcer for Star FM, Innocent Tshuma, will co-present the traffic report, which will be aired at 4:30 pm Monday to Friday together with Mr Spencer Nyamadzawo from Swift.
The two will have an aerial view of the city centre using Swift's equipment mounted at vantage points in the city to enable them to give detailed updates of the traffic situation.
The country's first commercial radio station's initiative, comes at a time when traffic levels in Harare are increasing, leading to congestion and accidents on most of the major roads.
Zimpapers chief operations officer Mr Pikirayi Deketeke said the move was a positive development that would see Swift and Star FM working together with the police to inform and educate motorists.
He said that Zimbabweans deserved to get regular updates on what was happening on the roads.
"Each time I am in South Africa and I tune in to their radio stations, I always marvel at how they keep motorists informed about what is happening on the roads. One can actually decide to avoid a certain road because of these important updates. Star FM wants to make a difference, hence this partnership with Swift and the police," he said.
Mr Deketeke said Zimpapers was excited about Star FM and expressed confidence that the radio station would grow.
Swift managing director, Mr Rob Kuipers, said he was happy that his company was giving back to the community through this initiative. He said his company was excited to be working with Zimpapers and its newest product, Star FM, adding that Swift would continue to partner with the station in other ventures.
