Impala Car Rental's benevolence hailed

Peter Chirata, the father of a 12-year-old Mt Darwin girl who suffered serious burns in a inferno in 2013, was a relieved man yesterday after Impala Car Hire paid for her medical bills and donated cash and groceries for their upkeep.
Impala, Thompson Dondo foundation also offered to assist in the plastic surgery recommended by doctors on Sharon Chirata whose burns left her with permanent contractures.
Following media reports that her condition was getting worse and she has dropped from school, Impala offered to play its part by paying some of the hospital bills and take them to be part of beneficiaries of the Alfred Dondo foundation.
"I am young brother to their father who died in 2013 and their mother left them, her we don't know about her whereabouts. My family became big because I have five children on my own so I couldn't raise money to for her operation," he said.
He got affected by the deteriorating health of Sharon and that she dropped her school because she was no longer feeling comfortable.
"That was the most worrying part and her twin sister who was also affected by the fire is having mental problems at times. That was a torrid time for me but I am grateful that since it was reported by the media we are now getting assistance," he said.
Chirata singled out Impala Car Rental saying they have come to his rescue.
"We have organisations and people coming to assist and we want to thank them however Impala Car Rental has gone beyond by taking them to be beneficiaries of their foundation. That will go a long way in assisting us as family," he added.
Speaking just after paying some of the money at Karanda Hospital in Mt Darwin, Impala Car Rental marketing manager Tracy Ngoma said they were moved by the plight of Sharon.
"This is something that needs urgent attention and that is why we decided to chip in as company. After being referred to specialists in plastic surgery we have already take it upon ourselves that we assist as much as we can," she said.
She said apart from paying for her medical bills they would also take them as beneficiaries of the Alfred Dondo foundation.
"Our foundation takes care of about 65 children and these two are also coming on board to make them 67. As a company we will continue giving back to the community," she added.
