THREE people died on Thursday night while two others are in critical condition after they were knocked down by a haulage truck as they attended to another traffic accident at the 23-kilometre peg along the Mvurwi-Kanyemba Highway.
Two poeple died on the spot, another on admission at Guruve Hospital, while two others are admitted at the same hospital.
Mashonaland Central acting police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Fidelis Dhewu confirmed the accident.
"I can confirm a fatal accident at the 23-kilometre peg along Mvurwi-Kanyemba Highway, where three people died," Dhewu said.
The deceased were identified as Lilian Shamhu, Tarisai Kasaira and Delight Vhurumu.
Allegations are that Edward Makombe was driving his Mazda Bongo at night and hit a cow.
Another motorist, Trymore Zimbe (43), arrived at the scene driving a Nissan Caravan and parked his vehicle close to the scene so as to render assistance to Makombe.
Another motorist, Notice Makaza (34), also arrived at the scene in a Toyota Vitz.
The now-deceased, Kasaira and Shamu, who were in the Toyota Vitz, disembarked and stood behind the Caravan and were later joined by Vhurumu.
Within minutes, a speeding haulage truck came and hit the Nissan Caravan which knocked down the trio, killing two on the spot.
