Movement for Democratic Change member of parliament for Zaka North Ernest Mudavanhu was arrested and detained overnight at Masvingo Central Police station last Friday over charges of drunken driving, driving through a red traffic light and insulting a police officer.
Mudavanhu's lawyer Martin Mureri confirmed the incident saying the MDC-T MP would appear in court today facing charges of drunken driving, driving through a red traffic light and insulting a police officer.
"My client was arrested and detained for what I can say are concocted charges of crossing a red robot, drunken driving and insulting the police. We are expected to appear in court today," Mureri said.
"I believe this is just political persecution because even if he had committed the crime, he could have been given a fine, but I am surprised at the way the case was treated. I smell a rat here. This is just someone trying to settle political scores."
