Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister Walter Mzembi has called on all Zimbabweans to speak with one voice and rally behind the government in hosting a successful United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) General Assembly event.
In an interview, Mzembi said fortune knocks on ones door only once and for Zimbabwe the UNWTO event is an opportunity of a life-time that requires all Zimbabweans to unite and do everything possible to derive benefits from the important global event.
He said of late he has noted with concern a disturbing trend of a nation in conflict with itself, adding that its time people become focused and come up with ways of addressing challenges for the successful hosting of the event.
Minister Mzembi said it is not the infrastructure that will make the UNWTO General Assembly successful but it's the mental state of preparedness of the nation that is required.
Mzembi said it is not every year that a country especially in Africa gets an opportunity to host such a global spectacle where 186 countries congregate.
Claims in recent weeks that Zimbabwe could have misled the global tourism body to win the bid to host the convention made sad news for the whole country which for over a decade has received negative publicity.
Analysts say now is the time for all Zimbabweans to unite and make the event a memorable one as it is an opportunity for the country to showcase not only its tourist attractions, but other economic facets that potential investors could be interested in.
