Ntabeni Clinic electricity woes will become a thing of the past after the MDC today donated an electricity generator and bed sheets to the clinic. The Clinic is located in Ntabeni South ward in Zhombe.
The clinic which serves over 400 households in the Ntabeni South and neighbouring ward has been facing the lighting problem since its constructions some time ago making it difficult to be accessible during the night forcing it to shut during those hours, as a result is has recorded a number of deaths while some villagers have been forced to walk long travel long distances to Kwekwe hospital to seek treatment.
The community had asked for the help through the local councilor Sandra Ncube who belongs to the party. She alerted the party of the need of her community two months ago and the party responded positively.
Speaking that the presentation of the generator and bed sheets the MDC leader President Welshman Ncube thanked the local community for turning in their numbers to receive the present. He told the community that the MDC will always be ready to serve the communities in the country whenever it is called to do so. He went on to tell the people that it is the duty of the government to respond to the needs of the people but however the central government system has failed the people of Zimbabwe by being unresponsive to the needs of the people.
"we were very much touched by the [plight of the community, the news of sick people failing to get treatment in time because there is no electricity is very sad, so after the councilor told us of your plight, we dug deep into our pockets and delivered this to you. In a proper democracy the people must propose projects at community level and the government must fund them but here in our situation due to the central government model, all things have to go to Harare and decisions on what to fund and when are made there. It is this system that has made you poorer. It is for that reason that you said you want devolution of power and it is that reason, we will defend it in the new constitution" he said amid applause.
President Ncube promised the community that before the end of the year the party will source funds for the borehole drilling and installation in the clinic as the clinic does not have water.
The village head Mr Mpama Moyo who was speaking on behalf of the traditional leadership in the area said that it was comforting to receive such a gift from the son of Midlands considering that since independence the region has produced sons who have occupied government position but have never bothered to plough back to the communities.
"Now we can walk our heads high, we are no longer ashamed to point to people that the MDC President Welshman is our son in Midlands, he has honoured us as his parents. This is not the first time that Midlands has produced a cabinet minister but none of them have given us something. So we are proud today and we are very grateful," he said.
The function was also attended by the MDC Secretary General Priscilla Misihairabwi- Mushonga, Councillor Sandra Ncube, Local Traditional Leadership, Home based care groups and community health groups.
