Man drinks battery acid before hanging himself over beast

A Masvingo man, 32, swallowed battery acid before hanging himself following a misunderstanding with a friend over the whereabouts of his beast, in a suicide case that has shocked the local community.
Tauya Chigoronge of Mukosi Village under Chief Nyajena's realm felt aggrieved after Francis Mubvigwi failed to account for a beast he had borrowed from him.
Acting Masvingo provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nkululeko Nduna confirmed the incident. According to police records, Mubvigwi was ploughing when he borrowed the beast from Chigoronge early this year. Chigoronge later visited Mubvigwi, who failed to account for the animal. Asst Insp Nduna said a quarrel ensued, resulting in the former walking away in anger. Chigoronge, it is understood, locked himself in his bedroom and took battery acid. His wife, Beauty Simba (25), investigated after hearing him groan.
"Simba had to break the door to gain entry.
"Soon after entering the room, she saw Chigoronge lying on the floor with froth coming out of his mouth," said Asst Insp Nduna.
"Simba then went to fetch some milk to dilute the acid from a neighbour who lives about 500 metres away. Chigoronge then took advantage of his wife's absence.
"He took a rope and hanged himself on a tree a few metres from the bedroom."
