The Welshman Ncube led MDC has invaded President Mugabe's home area Mashonaland West Province where it has embarked on a massive membership drive ahead of general elections tentatively slated for next year.
MDC Mashonaland West chairperson Tagwireyi Ngwenya said the party was geared to strengthen its structures despite the high levels of political intolerance in the province generally regarded as a Zanu-PF stronghold.
Ngwenya denied claims that his MDC formation was the smallest member of the coalition government.
"We have many plenty of supporters in this province who have been targeted by Zanu-PF," Ngwenya said.
He said they had already penetrated areas such as Mhangura and Kariba and that plans were afoot to set up district structures in Chinhoyi, Makonde, Chegutu West and Hurungwe Central by November this year.
