Elias Chiduwa (49), a close relative of the Deputy Minister of Finance Clemence Chiduwa is among the six suspected notorious robbers who were nabbed by the Police in Harare yesterday.
Elias was arrested together with two members of the Zimbabwe National Army who are believed to be members of the gang that suspected to have terrorised Masvingo for a long time.
The soldiers are Ratiel Romeo (33) and Fortune Ndlovu (28) who are both with 4 Brigade.
Deputy Mininster Chiduwa refuted reports that Elias is his brother but he told The Mirror that the suspect is his aunt's (father's sister) son. He said he is inundated by calls from people who think that the arrested man is his direct brother.
The other suspects recorded in a Police report that is in the hands of The Mirror are Tendai Mahala who is a carpenter in Masvingo and Tadious Mupfurire (43) who is unemployed.
The social media is also abuzz with speculation that Manyanga is a brother to Masvingo Ward 10 councillor Sengerei Manyanga. Councillor Manyanga refuted any relationship with the nabbed soldier when contacted by The Mirror.
The gang is now being linked to several other cases of robberies committed in the city including at some businessmen's residents in Rhodhene. There are suspicions that the gang is well connected.
