MDC Alliance's outspoken Vice Chairman and MP, Job Sikhala that despite all adversities in jail and even if it means dying in Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison - "a concentration camp" - he will never give up fighting for people's freedom.
Sikhala said this in a letter from detention.
Sikhala remains in custody after his bail appeal hearing in the High Court was postponed to 26 January after the State indicated it had not responded to his application. Prosecutors say they received the record from the magistrate court today and were not able to study it.
Sikhala is being charged for allegedly publishing falsehoods after tweeting that a police officer fatally struck a baby with a baton stick. Journalist Hopewell Chin'ono and MDC-A spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere are facing the same allegations.
Sikhala, journalist Hopewell Chin'ono and MDC Alliance spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere were arrested over a tweet. Mahere is now out on bail with Covid-19. The two have been denied bail.
MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa has raised alarm over political arrests and detention of opposition and civil society activists during this period, saying President Emmerson Mnangagwa's regime was now "weaponising Covid-19" in a wicked bid to kill his opponents and critics.
