Women to put political differences aside, direct energies towards development

Vice President, Joice Mujuru has challenged women from across the political divide to set their differences aside and instead direct their energies towards innovative and developmental projects including technological advancement.
Mujuru was addressing delegates attending the belated International Women's Day celebrations held in Chinhoyi.
Vice President Mujuru underscored the need for women to emulate the courage demonstrated by women who took up arms during the liberation struggle and aspire to take a lead in all sectors be it social or political spheres.
Speaking at the same occasion, Women Affairs, Gender and Community Development Minister, Dr Olivia Muchena called on women to emancipate themselves from the dependency syndrome even in the face of the illegal sanctions imposed on the country by the west.
UN Resident Cor-odinator in Zimbabwe, Mr Noudehou emphasized the need for all nations to adopt policies aimed at striking a gender balance among all races.
Established 100 hundred years ago, the International Women's Day is the day the world witnessed a rise in women, excelling to occupy offices of influence in the world, with Zimbabwe being the first in Africa to have a female Vice President and a female Deputy Prime Minster.
This year's International Women's Day commemorations were celebrated under the theme, 'Equal access to education, training and science and technology for women: pathway to economic development'.
