Security guards jailed for stealing farming inputs

TWO security guards from strike company were yesterday jailed 16 months by a Guruve magistrate for stealing herbicides and fertilizers from a farmer who they were providing security services.
Kenton Mupaushe (26) and Donny Matiti pleaded guilty to the charges before magistrate Geraldine Mutsotso.
The court heard that during the period extending from January 2 to 22 the duo was on guard at Plot 1 Stockwell farm in Mvurwi.
The two hatched a plan to steal herbicides and fertilizers from the plot owner Diana Danai Saungweme.
They stole 6 x 50 kilograms of fertilizers and sold 4 to Solomon Marimana, another one to Clever Homani while the remaining one was applied in the guards' field.
On a separate date, the convicts unlocked a tobacco barn and stole a 20 litre Nato herbicide which they sold to Solomon Marimana.
Working on a tip-off the police intercepted the duo trying to steal some fertilizers using the same modus operandi.
Upon being interviewed by the police they revealed how they stole the inputs and where they sold them.
Some of the loot was recovered and was used as an exhibit in court.
