Kariba Mayor distributes 2020 Mayor's Christmas Cheer-fund proceeds

His Worship, the Kariba Mayor Cllr George Masendu will be taking the 2020 Mayor's Christmas Cheer-fund proceeds to 110 beneficiaries drawn by the relevant Councillors from the 9 Municipal wards. This year's function will not see the usual jamboree and festivities due to Covid-19 restrictions. The year's proceeds will be delivered door to door by the Mayor himself and relevant ward councillors.
On Thursday, 11th of February 2021, the Mayor will be a guest to wards in Mahombekombe, Heights and Camphill which are wards 4, 5, 6, 7 & 9. On Friday the 12th of February 2021, the Mayor completing his charitable event in Nyamhunga wards 1, 2, 3 & to include the Chawara ward 8.
Municipality Public Relations Officer Mr Gabriel Mazivofa has confirmed that all logistics are in order and the event will indeed observe the Covid-19 regulations all the way. He also indicated that the lists of beneficiaries have been agreed as per the usual Council assessment and knowledge of the people meant to benefit.
Kariba Municipality has been consistent regards remembering the disadvantaged people of its society yearly with stakeholders supporting religiously. This year the Municipality managed to raise a sum of about ZWL$221,000.00 and 45kg kapenta from the local individuals and corporate as well as some companies from Harare.
The cheer-fund also has pulled local business person, Mr Ticharwa (Upsurge Investments) to adopt payment of fees for 10 local school children for the year 2021. The 2020 event has fewer beneficiaries compared to 2019 when the fund benefited 180 people.
Plans are underway for Council to recognise the contribution by the individuals and industries through introduction of floating trophies or certificates in the categories of gold, bronze and silver. This could be considered for 2021 fundraising event.
Mayor George Masendu was on cloud 9 thanking individuals and corporate who managed to donate towards the 2020 Mayor's Christmas Cheer-fund and for remembering the less privileged in Kariba town community.
