A 24-year old Bindura man from Okello 18 Mine in Shamva was arraigned before a Bindura magistrate yesterday after allegedly stealing 100 kilograms of gold ore.
Aaron Nyamunda pleaded not guilty before magistrate Moreblessing Makati and was remanded in custody to April 21.
Prosecutor Sheilla Kudzai Maribha alleged that on Tuesday at around 2300hrs, the complainant and owner of the mine, Roy Tsiga (26) were conducting some patrols at the mine with his brother Simon.
They saw a small light at one of the mine site which is no longer operational.
They drew closer and observed two people pulling a sack full of gold ore out of a mine shaft using a windlass.
The duo was asked to explain what was taking place but they were tongue-tied and a chase ensued.
While in the race for freedom, Nyamunda's luck hit a brickwall and he fell into a shaft while his accomplice, who is still at large vanished into the darkness.
The accused was helped out of the shaft and was subsequently arrested.
Four bags of gold ore weighing approximately 100kgs were recovered from where they had been hidden, some metres away from where the accused was seen pulling out the gold ore.
