Vice President John Landa Nkomo has urged Zimbabwean artisans in the diaspora to return home and help rebuild the nation. Nkomo made the call when he officially opened the 4th Zimbabwe Mining Indaba in Harare.
The Vice President said the mining sector is faced with many challenges including power shortage, lack of modern technology for exploration and extraction of minerals, and unavailability of financial resources.
He said despite the challenges, Zimbabwe is competitive in the mining sector as it has 60 minerals, 40 of which are now being exploited, while 20 are yet to be explored.
Nkomo said government is crafting a new law to govern mining operations and exploration including the launch of a new exploration company that will give accurate data to potential investors on what the country has to offer.
The indaba is being attended by financiers, investors, mining experts, geologists, engineers and government executives.
