THREE Mvurwi Town Council officials who allegedly stole 32 stands valued for more than ZWL$18 million which they sold to desperate stand seekers while issuing fake receipt.

Sheri Nyakudya (57), Town Secretary  Letwin Watambwa (55) Housing and community services officer and Simbarashe Kambare (45) housing clerk appeared before Guruve magistrate Geraldine Mutsotso on fraud charges.

The trio pleaded not guilty and were remanded in custody to  Monday for bail ruling.

The state led by Albert Charehwa alleged on October 3 2018 Mvurwi Town Council held a full council meeting and resolved to suspend selling of stands.

During the period extending from October 10  2018 to June last year the trio acting in common purpose or connivance hatched a plan to steal money for residential stands from  Mvurwi Town Council.

They would look for desperate stand seekers in Mvurwi Town and misrepresented to 32 stand seekers that they were selling their own residential stands.

The other accused who is still at large Sydney Chihombe (37) who is a nephew to Nyakudya generated fake receipts for  the stand seekers.

Watambwa recommended for approval of lease by endorsing her signature while  Nyakudya approved the lease documents by endorsing her signature too.

An internal audit was carried on December 3 last year  and proved that the council was prejudiced a total of ZWL$ 18 795 956.
