A drinking binge turned fatal following a dispute over the routine a cup of opaque beer was supposed to follow among friends.
Mica Mandere (23), of Snake Park, Harare, was last week arraigned before Mbare magistrate Mr Rueben Mukavhi facing murder charges as defined in Section 47(1) of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act.
Mandere is alleged to have killed Darlington Mupusa (24).
Prosecutor Tungamirai Muganhiri told the court that Mandere and the deceased had a misunderstanding after the former handed over the cup of opaque beer to his brother instead of Mupusa who was the next in line according to the drinking format the gang was employing. An enraged Mupusa is said to have started shouting obscenities at Mandere who, in a fit of rage, wrestled him to the ground and kicked him in the chest.
Mupusa is said to have started vomiting blood and was pronounced dead on arrival at a nearby clinic with a post mortem revealing that he died due to respiratory failure after broken rib pierced one of his lungs.
Mandere was remanded in custody to October 12.
