A HARARE man fatally stabbed his ex-wife on Tuesday night in a suspected longstanding domestic dispute in Marimba. The man has since been arrested in connection with the murder case. He allegedly stabbed the ex-wife thrice on the shoulder, neck and breast. The woman died after being admitted to Harare Central Hospital.
Officer commanding Harare South district, Chief Superintendent Aleck Chagwedera yesterday said on the fateful day, the man went to Marimba where his ex-wife was residing with her aunt.
It is alleged that he approached the aunt and duped her into believing that he sold cellphones before forcing himself into the house.
"He then attacked the ex-wife with a knife and stabbed her three times before he was restrained and apprehended by other occupants," Chief Supt Chagwedera said.
The woman was taken to hospital, but died after being admitted.
Chief Supt Chagwedera said the reasons for the attack were still not known, but the man alleged that he had some outstanding issues with the ex-wife while they were residing together in Beitbridge.
He said investigations were still in progress and the suspect was expected to appear in court soon.
This is not the first time that such cases have happened.
In June, a Harare man shot and killed his wife before turning the gun on himself at their workplace in Glen Lorne in a suspected longstanding domestic dispute.
The incident occurred at Imba Matombo Lodge where Farai Maseka (40) and Alice Sibanda (27) were both employed.
Nine out of 24 murder cases recorded in February were a result of domestic-related disputes.
Some of the cases were attributed to infidelity, while others to longstanding disputes.
