Air Zimbabwe salaries matter deferred

The High Court has deferred to the 18th of October the matter in which Air Zimbabwe workers are seeking to have the company placed under judicial management.
Justice Lavender Makoni presided over the case between National Airways Workers Union of Zimbabwe and the Air Transport Union versus Air Zimbabwe Holdings Private Limited and Air Zimbabwe Private Limited.
This was after Air Zimbabwe lawyer, Advocate Lewis Uriri recused himself from the matter due to conflict of interest as he represented Air Zimbabwe Workers Union when they filed and urgent High Court application in January.
The workers want the national airline to be placed under judicial management over a debt of more than 140 million dollars.
The parastatal has failed to pay workers salaries since January 2009 and owes its employees about 35 million as of December 2011.
The airline faced a liquidity crisis which led to suspension of international flights after two of its planes were impounded in London and Johannesburg over unpaid debts for services provided.
