14 May 2021 at 12:20hrs | Views
Two Harare illegal gold miners died on Wednesday after inhaling toxic gases from a blast at a gold shaft in Mazowe.
Tafadzwa Mugadza (39) of Glenora C and Thomas Mlambo (45) of Epworth Harare died after inhaling the unspecified toxic gases at Mukurubande mine, Mazowe.
Mashonaland Central police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Naison Dhliwayo confirmed the case.
Allegations are that the now deceased Mhlambo entered in a shaft after a blast and inhaled the toxic gas and died, Mugadza followed to enquire what had happened to Mhlambo and he also inhaled the gases which also killed him.
The bodies were discovered by Mlambo's brother Paul Mlambo who filed a police report.
Police warned illegal miners to formalize their operations so as to avoid such disasters.
